TAKE A LITTLE GREEN HOME

Beautiful plants.
Simple everyday care.

Bought a Valley Color plant from your local shop? Find your plant below and help it settle into its new home.

01 / FIND ITS SPOT

Bright, gentle light.

Start near a bright window with filtered light. Move gradually if changing exposure; hot afternoon sun through glass can scorch foliage.

02 / CHECK BEFORE WATERING

Soil first. Calendar second.

Check the mix with your finger and lift the pot to feel its weight. Water thoroughly when needed, let it drain, and empty the saucer or decorative outer pot.

03 / FEED WHEN GROWING

A little goes a long way.

Use a balanced houseplant fertilizer at its labeled indoor rate while actively growing. Reduce or pause feeding when growth slows; avoid doubling up with fertilizer already in the mix.

Light
Bright, indirect light keeps variegation attractive; avoid hot direct sun. Lower light slows growth.
Water
Let the upper potting mix dry before watering; check below the surface, then water thoroughly and drain.
Good to know
Prune long vines above a node for a fuller look. Yellow leaves with wet soil suggest excess moisture; fading variegation may mean too little light.

Light
Medium to bright, indirect light; protect from harsh direct sunlight.
Water
Water when the surface starts to dry. Keep the root zone lightly moist, never soggy; reduce watering in cooler, darker conditions.
Good to know
Brown tips can reflect fertilizer salts or fluoride in water. Try rainwater or reverse-osmosis water and avoid heavy feeding. Plantlets can be rooted separately.
RAMONA, CALIFORNIA · GENERALLY USDA ZONE 9b

Compare your climate: Ramona is generally Zone 9b, with the broader 92065 ZIP code spanning Zones 9a–10a depending on location. Zone 9b represents an average annual extreme winter minimum of 25–30°F.

For Green and Reverse Variegated Spider Plants, similar mild-winter climates are a useful starting point for outdoor shade growing. A matching zone alone does not guarantee performance: shade, frost pockets, wind, watering, and freeze duration also matter. USDA zones describe winter cold, not summer heat tolerance.

Green & Reverse Variegated: enjoy them outdoors, too.

These selections can also be grown in a shaded yard or patio. Our grower reports that established plants in a shaded home garden have experienced temperatures as low as 26°F and as high as 100°F in shade.

That is a local growing observation, rather than a guaranteed temperature range. Frost exposure, how long temperatures last, acclimation, and growing in pots versus the ground affect results. Protect plants during freezes, especially newly purchased plants and exposed containers.

Choose bright shade out of hot afternoon sun. Outdoor pots can dry faster in heat or wind—check the soil more often and water thoroughly when needed.

Philodendron BrasilHeart-shaped leaves with green and lime color
Light
Bright, indirect light is a good starting point. Lower light is tolerated but growth slows.
Water
Check the mix before watering; allow the surface to dry slightly, then water and drain.
Good to know
Trim trailing stems to shape the plant, or provide climbing support. Wipe dust gently from leaves and inspect undersides for insects.

Monstera deliciosaLarge leaves · upright climbing form
Light
Moderately bright, indirect light; protect leaves from intense direct sun.
Water
Allow the upper quarter to one-third of the potting mix to dry, then water thoroughly and let excess drain.
Good to know
Provide sturdy support as stems lengthen. Young leaves may be solid before developing splits. Prefers 60–85°F and humid air.

Monstera Swiss CheeseCheck the plant label: this guide covers Monstera adansonii
Light
Bright, indirect light; harsh sun can scorch the leaves.
Water
Keep the mix lightly moist with good drainage. Check before watering and avoid a constantly saturated pot.
Good to know
Let vines trail or guide them onto a trellis. Keep above 50°F, away from cold drafts; a humidifier helps in dry rooms. Inspect for mites and mealybugs.

String of HeartsDelicate trailing vines · succulent leaves
Light
Bright, indirect light; avoid suddenly exposing leaves to strong sun.
Water
Let the potting mix dry completely between waterings. Water less when growth slows in winter.
Good to know
Use a freely draining succulent mix. Long gaps between leaves can mean insufficient light. Soft yellow leaves with wet soil suggest overwatering.

Baltic Blue & Variegated PinnatumFuture collection additions
Light
Bright, indirect light; protect from intense direct sun.
Water
Keep well-drained mix lightly moist, letting the surface dry slightly before watering.
Good to know
Give climbing stems support. Keep warm and away from drafts. Watch for mealybugs, scale, thrips, and mites; avoid waterlogged soil.
Plant reference · NC State Extension ↗
Syngonium AlboFuture collection addition · arrowhead foliage
Light
Bright, filtered light; direct sun can bleach or burn leaves.
Water
Check soil moisture before watering. Let the surface dry slightly and use a pot that drains freely.
Good to know
Provide warmth and humidity. Prune trailing stems to maintain a compact shape, or give climbing support. Inspect for aphids, mealybugs, and mites.

Comfortable indoors.

Choose a warm spot away from heater and AC vents. Protect tropical foliage from frost. Green and Reverse Variegated Spider Plants also suit outdoor shade—see their guide for our grower’s local experience and weather protection tips.

Notice a change?

Yellowing can have several causes—check soil moisture before adding water. Inspect new plants and leaf undersides for pests; separate affected plants and ask your retailer for help identifying the problem.

Plants & pets.

Pothos, philodendron, Monstera, and Syngonium can irritate the mouth if chewed. Keep them out of reach of pets and small children.
